Review

The Avengers is a very typical modern Action/Fantasy score with a plethora of tension building string pieces and heavy drums. There is nothing original or unique about The Avengers soundtrack, it sounds very generic.

One particular disappointment with The Avengers score is that it doesn’t tie in all of the different themes for the characters. A film score like The Avengers presents a perfect opportunity for combining the best parts of many scores into one. Silvestri instead created a score that stands apart from the scores of all the films that led up to The Avengers and doesn’t create any specific character themes. I think that including character themes would have helped to break The Avengers soundtrack out of its generic mold.

Though most of The Avengers score is generic, one song that stood out to me is “A Promise”. This song begins with a nice guitar piece, but then steadily drifts back into the old generic Action/Fantasy scoring style.

Overall The Avengers is not bad score, but it fails to define itself. It does not add any particular depth or character to the film, neither does it take anything away from the film.

Here are a couple of my favorite tracks from the album:

“Stark Goes Green”
